BREAKING: Armed gunmen launch an attack on INEC REC’s home in Kogi

Gabriel Longpet, the resident electoral commissioner for Kogi State for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was attacked by gunmen.

This was disclosed in a statement that the electoral authority released on Friday.

The text says: “At approximately 3.30 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023, gunmen attacked our Resident Electoral Commissioner’s (REC) home in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Before reinforcement could come, the armed men engaged the security staff in a gunfight that lasted more than half an hour.

In the ensuing gunfight, property was destroyed but no lives were lost. To protect the home, a group of security officers has been dispatched.This happened the day after our state office was overrun by protesters.

We want a comprehensive inquiry as well as increased security measures to safeguard our employees and property in Kogi State.
