FAMILY
Basketmouth was born in Lagos State on September 14th. He is a native of Nigeria’s Abia State.
Four children total, three from his legally wedded wife Elsie Ngowi Uzoma and one from a previous relationship named Amy who now lives in the UK with her mother, make up Basketmouth and his wife’s family.
EDUCATION
Basketmouth attended the University of Benin in Edo State after completing his primary and secondary education, where he earned a degree in sociology and anthropology.
CAREER
Before becoming a rapper in 1994, Basketmouth began his career as a drummer in 1991.
He formed “Da Psychopaths,” a crew of seven members, in 1995, and they began performing and rapping. The group split up, though, before any recordings were released.
He founded the rap group “Da Oddz” with his brother Godwin and Muyiwa Ola-Phillips. The trio played a few gigs but was unable to become well-known because the general audience rejected their kind of rap.
In 2000, Basketmouth made an appearance in Lagbaja’s “Gra Gra” music video.
Bright was first noticed by Oppa Williams in 2005 while performing on his comedy show “Night of a Thousand Laughs.”
In a 2016 African magic performance called “My Flatmates,” Basketmouth made an appearance. His web comic series “Papa Benji” will also debut in December 2020, as he just stated.
