On Thursday, the Supreme Court granted the Federal Government’s request to add nine reasons to its appeal against Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader.

The Federal Government’s appeal against the Court of Appeal’s discharge and acquittal of Kanu was approved by a five-person panel chaired by Justice John Okoro of the Supreme Court.

The court approved the request when ruling on a motion for leave made by Tijani Gazali, the attorney for the Nigerian government.

The Federal Government was permitted by the Justice Okoro-led panel to include the further nine grounds to its amended notice of appeal dated October 28, 2022.

Kanu’s attorney, Mike Ozekhome, informed the court about a few applications his client had made, including one in which he requested to be transferred from the Department of State Services, DSS, facility to Kuje jail.

Ozekhome asserted that Kanu was gravely ill and needed expert medical care, which he thought his client could have at the Kuje jail.

The subject was postponed by the supreme court until May 11 following the hearing.
