Governor Hyacinth Alia has been charged by Benue State Local Government Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for purposefully refusing to work with the party’s leadership and members in the state.

This charge was detailed in a statement released following Friday’s forum meeting.

The forum outlined in the communiqué several examples of strained ties between the party and Governor Hyacinth Alia, including the latter’s lack of responsiveness to phone calls, inaccessibility, and exclusion of party leadership from important government appointments.

The forum voiced displeasure with the recent formation of caretaker committees for local governments, claiming that the governor had unilaterally created a list that included members of opposition parties who were against the party’s triumph.

The forum, chaired by Austin Agada, conveyed contentment with the national APC leadership, which comprises Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and leader of the party in Benue State and the North-Central Geopolitical Zone, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria.

The forum, however, disassociated itself from Governor Alia’s choice to exclude the party’s leadership from the creation of policies and initiatives.

They lambasted the governor for acting alone in managing state matters without seeking party input, highlighting how crucial it is to respect political party leadership and structures in a democracy.

Fearing that the governor was acting in an anti-party and inconsiderate manner, the forum decided to cut ties with state and local government until the concerns voiced were handled.

Additionally, they decided to hold nonviolent demonstrations at a number of locations, such as the Benue State House of Assembly Complex, the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the APC State Secretariat, Government House in Makurdi, and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.
