Benue: Alia Installs New Local Government Caretaker Chairmen
Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, has sworn in the recently chosen caretaker chairs of the local government councils in the state.
He tasked them with making sure the local populace receives high-quality services.
At the Local Government Interim Executive Council Chairmen’s swearing-in event on Thursday at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, Governor Alia delivered the charge.
Recall that in order to give the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) adequate time to plan and carry out the state’s local government council elections, the governor wrote the Benue State House of Assembly requesting an extension of the Local Government Interim Executive Council Committees’ tenure.
The State House of Assembly replaced Mr. Timothy Hembaor, the previous nominee from the Ushongo Local Government Area, with Hon. Mvendaga Atetan on Thursday after screening and verifying the list of nominees sent to them by the governor.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Alia gave the chairmen an order to relinquish their excuses and serve their local government areas tirelessly so that their work represents the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) manifesto.

He asked them to stay at their various duty stations, respond to the needs of the local people, and ensure that they enjoy the benefits of democracy. He urged them to give it their all, particularly since his administration has provided autonomy to the local governments.
Declaring that it is his administration’s intention to see that such infrastructure accomplishments are reproduced at the state’s third tier of government, Governor Alia challenged them to duplicate the state’s infrastructure advancements in their local government districts.
Hon. Philip Achuah, the chairman of Konshisha Local Government Area, spoke on behalf of the chairmen and gave the governor the assurance that they would try their best to duplicate his efforts at the local government level.
