Bandits attack in Plateau community repelled by vigilante group

Reports from Plateau indicate that a group of bandits on motorcycles attempted to invade Butura village in the Bokkos Local Government Area.

However, the local vigilantes successfully repelled the attack, showcasing their resilience and determination to protect their community.

This incident occurred in the aftermath of a tragic event on Christmas Eve in 2023, where over two hundred people were mercilessly massacred in Butura. In response to the recurring attacks, the local people formed a militant force to combat the terrorists.

The Citizens Observer account on X described the community’s resistance as “formidable” and urged the people of the Middle Belt to arm themselves and defend their land.

The post also criticized the government for allegedly protecting the cowards responsible for these attacks. On the other hand, the Plateau State Police Command disputed this narrative, asserting that it was the police, not the local militants, who repelled the bandits. The command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident but emphasized the need to gather accurate information before making any official statements.
