The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) needs to be reorganized in order to reclaim its preeminent and dominant leadership position in Nigeria and Africa, according to former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

At an event on Thursday in Abuja called “welcome/reception of PDP governors-elect and send forth of the past PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) chairmen,” the party’s presidential candidate for the general election of 2023 provided the advise.

The PDP-GF organized the program with the title “Good Governance at the Sub-national level: Issues, Perspectives, Expectations and Outcomes.”

According to Abubakar, the PDP, which was established in 1999 as the main political party, was facing issues that needed to be resolved.

“We face a variety of difficulties. In 1999, we emerged as the main political force; but, since then, we have been losing ground.

“I believe it is important for us to take stock, identify the causes of our decline, and determine how to ensure that we reclaim our preeminent position as the oldest and most important political party in this nation.

“This is a very important challenge, which I think requires a whole day seminar for us as a party to ensure that we regain our preeminent position in the politics of this country and of all of Africa,” he said.

Abubakar encouraged all party members to be together and dedicated in the party endeavor to reclaim its mandate before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). He thanked all the governors-elect and those re-elected on the platform of the party.

Additionally, Namadi Sambo, a former vice president, counseled the party to investigate how party members were being suspended without following the proper procedures.
