Gunmen attacked and killed two police officers on Saturday, making it a sorrowful day for locals in Imo State’s Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.

This happened only a month after militants ambushed and killed five police officers and a couple at the same Okpala intersection on the Owerri-Aba Road.

Five officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were attacked and killed in March in the same Ngor Okpala LGA of the state.

Numerous individuals have left their homes and places of employment as a result of the tragedy that took place on Saturday.

Even though the state’s police department has only acknowledged the deaths of two policemen, several people claimed that seven officers had been shot during the event.

Obasanjonews24 learned that the gunmen opened fire on the cops this morning at a checkpoint along Aba Road in Okpala, killing two of them and injuring one.

When reached, Henry Okoye, the command’s police spokesman, stated that only two policemen “paid the supreme prize.”

He said over the phone with our correspondent that “the vigilant policemen on duty” were fighting it out with the gunmen.

He continued by saying that the police had discovered the blood-stained automobile that the shooters had abandoned while driving one of their operational cars.

Okoye asserted that the command’s operatives had taken over the region in order to boost locals’ trust and find the suspects.
