Army Chief Launches New Operation To End Plateau Killings

Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, launched Operation Hakorin Damisa on Saturday to put an end to the killings and security difficulties in Plateau State.

The Army Chief also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to battling criminals who have terrorised some communities in the Mangu Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

Major General Lagbaja was in Mangu to launch troops under Operation Hakorin Damisa IV as part of the Joint Security Task Force’s Operation Safe Haven to address security challenges in the affected areas of Mangu, Riyom, and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.

The Army chief reminded troops to follow the rules of engagement while carrying out their duty.

He also urged residents in the impacted areas to work with the military and offer crucial information.

The special operations unit consists of 300 men and seven Mines Resistance Armoured Personnel Vehicles, Motorcycles, Buffaloes Patrol Vehicles, and Armoured Personnel Vehicles.

Several deaths have been reported in Plateau recently, with gunmen carrying out the majority of the attacks in the state’s Mangu region.
