Appeal Court Reinstates Sacked APC Local Government Chairmen in Osun
The Appeal Court has ruled in favor of the sacked APC local government chairmen in Osun, reinstating them to their positions after a legal battle.
The elected local government chairmen and councillors removed by Governor Ademola Adeleke have been reinstated by the Court of Appeal in Akure.
In a ruling on Tuesday, the court ordered that the council officials, all of whom are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), immediately resume their positions.
At the same time, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has submitted an appeal challenging the decision made by the Appeal Court.
The government submitted a request to halt the execution until the appeal is heard.
remembers that upon taking office in November 2022, Governor Adeleke dismissed the local government officials following a High Court ruling which had previously overturned their election.
The High Court dismissed the council officials following their election, which had been organized by OSSIEC.
The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) along with other political parties had taken their challenge against the council elections to the High Court.
They requested the court to nullify the election, arguing that only APC candidates ran for vacant positions and voters were limited to choosing either ‘YES’ or ‘NO’.
