APC stakeholders have called on President Tinubu to remove NNPC GMD Mele Kyari and two others, citing concerns over the deteriorating state of Nigeria’s oil sector.

Certain stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) party known as The Tinubu Legacy Coalition (TLC) have called on President Bola Tinubu to terminate the leaders of Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory bodies due to their alleged inefficiency in overseeing this sector.

Together, Hon Bala Abu, in his role as Convener/National President of the group, and Co-Conveners Dr. Jeremmiah Okino and Comrade Gabriel Gbana co-signed a letter to the president alongside Secretary Dr. Thomas Terna, Princess Ajibola, and 95 others voicing their concerns on an important matter.

The party stakeholders urged the president to remove Mele Kyari, Gbenga Komolafe, and Farouk Ahmed from their leadership roles at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) are the respective regulatory bodies.

Kyari and other officials in charge of the oil industry were identified as lacking effective management by The APC group, citing frequent fuel shortages resulting in lengthy gas station queues nationwide. Furthermore, pipeline vandalism and the theft of oil were brought to attention as indicators of inadequacies within their leadership responsibilities.

Multiple delays of approximately six have been experienced by the refinery in Rivers State managed by NNPCL, and reports indicate that it has not commenced operations yet.

Moreover, the group asserted that the Nigerian oil and gas industry’s dwindling financial input into the country’s economy is adversely affecting its global image.

According to the letter, there is a serious worry regarding the country’s oil and gas industry as it has failed to fulfill its potential of driving economic growth. Rather than progress, this sector has been plagued by flaws such as inefficiencies, corruption and mismanagement.

The letter indicates that the extended tenure of Mele Kyari, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, and Farouk Ahmed has tarnished President Tinubu’s image.

The oil and gas sector is in disarray due to rampant fuel shortages, pipeline vandalism, and theft of oil being prevalent issues.

The contribution of this sector to the nation’s GDP has decreased, causing a tarnished reputation.

The sector’s lack of transparency and accountability has led to the loss of billions of dollars as a result of fraudulent activities.
