Anxiety over fuel subsidies as FG and labor meet today

On Monday, today, the Federal Government’s representatives and the NLC’s leadership will pick up their discussions on possible solutions to the problem of the removal of the gasoline subsidy.

Recall that the NLC had vowed to launch industrial action after the elimination of the fuel subsidy on May 29 in order to bring the nation’s economy to a halt.

But on June 5, the NLC declared that its planned strike had been called off following a series of discussions with the federal government.

However, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, made specific proposals that would lessen the impact of the increase in the price of petrol and other necessities brought on by the loss of subsidies.

In the meeting scheduled for today at 4pm, it is anticipated that some of the demands will be agreed upon by both parties.

The parties will meet again at the presidential Villa in Abuja, according to Kachallom Daju, permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
