Frustrated youths in Bauchi confront and attack a House of Representatives member, accusing the lawmaker of neglecting his duties and failing to adequately represent his constituents.

Angry youths allegedly attacked the convoy of Adamu Hashimu Ranga, a member representing Ningi/Warji Federal Constituency in Bauchi State’s House of Representatives. Fortunately, he narrowly avoided being mobbed by them in Ningi.

According to OBASANJONEWS, Ranga – a member of the Peoples Democratic Party who was elected in 2023 – joined other notable individuals from the Ningi Emirate Council at the burial ceremony for Muhammadu Yunusa Danyaya, late Emir of Ningi, on Sunday.

But while at the event, some young people from his district expressed their dissatisfaction with his representation by accusing him of ignoring them since he was elected and moved to Abuja.

Around 5:42 pm, as the lawmaker was departing from the late Emir’s palace, he was met with a chorus of ‘Ba mu yi’ chants in Hausa by young people. The phrase translates to “We don’t want you” and accompanied throwing sand and rocks at him.

According to OBASANJONEWS, attempts at pacifying the youth were unsuccessful as their assault persisted. The situation worsened when the legislator approached his car, leading to extensive harm inflicted on it – including broken windows, a shattered windscreen and rear mirrors.

During a telephone interview with OBASANJONEWS, an eyewitness characterized the occurrence as unlucky.

With deep sadness from the Emir’s passing, he left the palace. As he approached a commotion where youths were throwing sand and stones at what seemed to be a car, it became apparent that our representative was under attack.

According to him, as soon as the lawmaker was departing from the palace, the youths positioned themselves near his car and launched an attack after spotting him.

Furthermore, it was ascertained that security officials had to intervene before the legislator could be escorted from the location.

As of the time this report was written, attempts to contact Rep Adamu Hashim Ranga for comment were unsuccessful.

Remember that the National Assembly representative had faced an attempted recall by his constituents, but collecting signatures for it was halted with assistance from the late Emir of Ningi and additional supporters.
