The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra, was attacked by gunmen early on Wednesday morning.

According to a source, using an improvised explosive device, the thugs set fire to the commission’s regional headquarters in the area.

In the same local government region, the gunmen also targeted a police station in Nnobi and a residential building inside it, where they killed a boy and injured a girl.

However, it was unclear how badly damaged the police station was as of the time of publication.

DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the events in a press release.

He further stated that in order to prevent such attacks from occurring elsewhere, the leadership had heavily deployed security forces around the state.

In response to an attack on the INEC office in Idemili South, Ojoto, and Nnobi Police Station, the announcement stated that the Anambra State Police Command had increased security deployment in the state as of today, January 2, 2023.

The thugs arrived in large groups at 1:45 am on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, driving four unmarked Sienna vehicles that were loaded with IEDs, petrol bombs, and other explosives.

“They broke into the INEC office, the police station, and the station’s residential building.” Sadly, one lad, who was 16 years old and a relative of a station employee, was shot and killed by the armed guys, while the other victim was a 15-year-old girl. She was brought to the hospital, where she is getting medical attention.
