Anambra government invites IPMAN on N900 million debt claims

For a meeting over the assertion of a debt of over N900 million to suppliers of diesel, the Anambra State Government has invited the leadership of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

The local government, chieftaincy, and community affairs commissioner, Mr. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, made this statement in response to the association’s letter of appeal on Thursday in Awka.

In its letter, IPMAN requested Governor Chukwuma Soludo to reimburse its members who worked as contractors for the Anambra government for the diesel they provided to run streetlight generators in March and April 2022.

N900,664,805 was the amount owed, according to IPMAN.

The government had received the journalists’ complaint, Nwabunwanne assured the media, and it will take all necessary steps to safeguard the businesses.

Contradictions in the contractors’ allegations, he claimed, were to blame for the delay.

In order to reconcile the numbers for settlement, the commissioner stated that his office will meet with IPMAN’s executive team, the organisation that represents all marketers.

“I have scheduled a meeting with the IPMAN leadership for the beginning of next week to discuss this; it is obvious that they are not aware of all the facts regarding our interactions with the contractors, since there are inconsistencies.

So that we may go on to the next level, the meeting will allow us to resolve these disparities.

The governor’s administration, he said, “is business-friendly and will do everything possible to support and help them stay in business.”
