Due to allegations of armed robbery, official corruption, and unlawful duty, two Police Inspectors, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, who were employed by the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, were fired.

AIG Mohammed Ali, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, issued the order for the dismissal following an Orderly Room trial.

On Nov. 23, 2023, at around 10:00 p.m., Adetoye, Stephen, two vigilantes named Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi, and a driver named Charles John allegedly stormed a house in the Obada- Oko village in Ogun State.

Two Submachine SMG rifles and live ammo were stated to be among their weapons in a statement released by Umma Ayuba, the zonal spokeswoman.

Without a warrant, they reportedly searched Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola’s flat on Sunday and took five iPhones, a Samsung smartphone, a Tecno smartphone, and two laptop computers.

“While he exhorts all officers and men of the force to remain professional in the fulfilment of their duties by the law, the AIG has mandated that the dismissed officers be charged in court alongside the civilians involved. Anyone found wanting will be held accountable for their actions or inactions.

“He emphasised that the current administration of the Nigeria Police Force, led by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, would not tolerate any form of dishonest or corrupt behaviour, and he beseeches the public to consistently report instances of dishonest behaviour by officers and men, since the police are always there to protect everyone,” the statement read.
