Akwa Ibom: EFCC Arrests 11 for Suspected Internet Fraud

In Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, eleven individuals suspected of internet fraud have been apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Uyo zonal command operatives.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Dele Oyewale-the spokesperson- expressed this viewpoint.

He reported that a group of suspects comprising nine males and two females were apprehended whilst driving in convoy along Ikpa Road.

According to him, the reason for their arrest was reliable intelligence regarding their alleged fraudulent online operations, extravagant lifestyles and distribution of currency at events in Uyo city.

Two vehicles were seized from them, namely a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado bearing registration number ABC 553 LD Abuja and a Toyota Camry LE with license plate KKN 48 AE Akwa Ibom.

Two Honda Accord cars with registration numbers LSR 754 AQ Lagos and LSR475 FN Lagos respectively belong to others.

He said, “Furthermore, there is a Toyota sedan with the registration number RBC 1898J in Abuja and a Lexus 300 sedan with the registration number JJJ423 JK in Lagos.”

He stated that they also had in their possession 15 mobile phones and ten packs of N200 bills.

As soon as investigations are concluded, Mr. Oyewale stated that the suspects will face charges in court.
