After suffering severe injuries in the stampede that took place at singer Asake’s concert at Brixton O2 Academy in London, 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo, a mother of two from Nigeria, has been declared dead.

Ikumelo passed away on Saturday in a hospital after suffering grave injuries in the stampede. Ikumelo gained a lot of popularity on Tiktok with videos she shared about her experience caring for her autistic kid.

Asake posted a message on his Instagram account on Saturday confirming the concertgoer’s demise: “I am grieved by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who had been in a critical condition since Thursday, has regrettably departed away.

“Please accept my deepest sympathies to her family and friends. Please remember to pray for her family. I’ve talked to them and will keep doing so. I’m in a state of extreme anguish and could never have imagined this occurring.

“My team and I am still awaiting the full debrief from the venue management and the police in order to pinpoint precisely what triggered all the commotion that resulted in Rebecca’s dying.

Asake’s sold-out performance at the O2 Academy Brixton on Thursday had to be cut short due to a large number of fans trying to force entry into the arena without tickets.

Eight people were sent to hospitals, while two more who had less severe injuries were treated on the spot, according to a police report.
