Ademola Lookman, the winger for Atalanta, has made history by becoming the fourth Nigerian player to score three or more goals in the knockout stages of a single Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Lookman secured his place on this exclusive list by scoring the winning goal in the Super Eagles’ hard-fought 1-0 victory against the Palancas Negras of Angola on Friday night. In addition to this achievement, Lookman had previously scored two goals in Nigeria’s Round of 16 match against Cameroon last week Saturday.

The late Rashidi Yekini was the first Nigerian player to accomplish this feat during the AFCON 1994 finals in Tunisia. Austine Jay Jay Okocha, a former midfielder, joined Yekini on the list during the 2004 edition of the tournament hosted by Tunisia. Furthermore, Odion Ighalo also achieved this milestone five years ago in Egypt.
