The students at the Osun State Polytechnic in Iree have been told by the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, that classes will resume on August 14, 2023.

This commitment was made by Adewusi to Abere, the Osun State Secretariat, on Thursday when he spoke to protesting students from the institution.

The assistant governor informed the students that he would do all in his power to guarantee that the Osun Poly, Iree campus reopened and claimed to understand their suffering.

According to him, it is a falsehood if the government claims they don’t comprehend your issue. Now, I’m placing myself in your position. In addition to having a time limit, you are preparing for a test.

“Delay can lead to a lot of troubles for you. The state’s administration is aware of this issue.

“It is not your concern to solve the school’s problems. You are responsible for taking your exam and going on vacation.

“I can say with confidence that your school will resume on Monday. This administration will complete everything over the weekend.

“Hold me responsible if you don’t open again by Monday.”

On Thursday, the school’s pupils demonstrated in front of the government secretariat in Abere and the House of Assembly in Osun State.

Azeez Tajudeen Adebayo, president of the student union government at the school, and other students had pleaded with the state government to keep their school open so that they may continue their exams.

They further assured the state administration that they were not being paid to take action, but rather that they were doing it because they were affected negatively as stakeholders.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Osun Poly, Iree Chapter, ceased all academic operations in July in response to the State Government’s decision to suspend the Rector, Tajudeen Odetayo.

A further appointment made by the State Government that ASUP protested was that of Kehinde Alabi as Acting Rector.
