In Bungudu town, the administrative centre of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, no less than seven people have been reported abducted after armed bandits raided the town.

According to information obtained by OBADSANJO NEWS24, the terrorists entered the town, which is about 20 kilometres from Gusau, the state capital, with heavy weapons, kidnapped seven people—two men and five women—and killed one.

Alhaji Ibrahim Bungudu, a local, told the Daily Post that the abductees were Prince Abdulrahman Hassan Attahiru, the Emir of Bungudu’s son; a former State programme officer for the IPAD; three of Alhaji Umaru Sanda’s wives; the wife of one Abdullahi Zubairu; and the wife of one Hamisu Rabi’u.

However, he said that the kidnappers had not requested a ransom and that the abducted people’s families had declined to speak to reporters about the incident.

When contacted, Abdulmalik Zubairu, a family member of one of the kidnapped individuals and member of the House of Representatives for the Maru/Bungudu federal constituency, described the incident as devastating and regrettable and promised that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure the restoration of peace and tranquilly in the state.

Recall that on August 7, 2023, in the wee hours, bandits stormed the divisional police headquarters in Bungudu and killed one ASP Nura Ibrahim, who was set to receive a new rank (ASP) that day.

All relevant authorities, especially security agencies that also lose a large number of men in active duty, are paying close attention to the banditry comeback in Zamfara State.

The Police have not yet responded to recent reports of kidnapping in the state.
