A deadly attack on a hospital in Sudan has claimed the lives of 70 people, further escalating the ongoing conflict and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the country.

Approximately 70 individuals lost their lives in an assault on a hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, according to the World Health Organization’s report on Sunday. The Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital was the target of this attack, which local authorities attribute to the rebel group known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

This incident occurs amid the escalating civil war in Sudan, where the RSF seems to be facing losses against Sudanese military forces. On Saturday, army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan was seen near a burning oil refinery north of Khartoum that his forces alleged they had captured from the RSF.

Saudi Arabia denounced the attack, labeling it a breach of international law.

Meanwhile, South Sudan has temporarily blocked access to social media platforms for a minimum of 30 days. This decision comes in response to videos circulating that allegedly depict the killings of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan. The move is intended to curb potential violence and unrest within South Sudan itself.
