Suspected arsonists in Kogi carried out an attack, setting fire to 75-year-old woman and two other individuals

A 75-year-old woman named Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani was tragically set on fire by unidentified arsonists in Kogi State. The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning at her residence in Idah Local Government Area. Sadly, her first daughter, Hajarat Usman Sani, and her five-year-old granddaughter, Onechojo, also lost their lives in the fire.

According to a family source, a group of individuals arrived at the house with petrol while Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani, her daughter, and granddaughter were sleeping. They proceeded to pour the gasoline on the house and set it ablaze.

The five-year-old granddaughter passed away immediately due to severe burns, while Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani and her daughter were rushed to a hospital. Tragically, Mallama later succumbed to her injuries, while her daughter continues to fight for her life.

Mallama Meimunat Opaluwa Sani held the esteemed title of Akwuma Attah Igala in 2023. Her funeral, along with that of the five-year-old girl, was conducted in accordance with Islamic rites. The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, stated that the police have not yet received any information regarding the incident.
