33 people are killed in Adamawa floods
Since the start of the current wet season, floods in some areas of Adamawa State have claimed at least 33 lives.
The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), which made this announcement on Tuesday, stated 9,960 people who were affected by the floods are being housed in 11 camps by 1,600 homes.
Speaking at a stakeholders conference called to discuss flood-related issues, ADSEMA Executive Secretary Muhammed Suleiman said the organisation has set up relief camps in four severely hit local government areas: Yola North, Yola South, Lamurde, and Demsa.
Humanitarian organisations and a few pertinent organisations were present at the emergency stakeholders meeting, which the state government organised, to discuss issues resulting from increasing riverbank runoff.

The state government constructed 11 camps across four local government areas as a result of the devastating floods, according to the chief executive of ADSEMQ.
Speaking on the occasion through his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stated that as a people-driven government, the government is striving to lessen the impact of the floods on the people.
He claimed that approvals had been made to guarantee the provision of the affected people’s fundamental needs in order to protect their safety and well-being.
The governor reaffirmed that even though flood victims have taken up residence in some schools, the situation would not interfere with learning since arrangements would be made by the government to assure this.
The meeting is required to save lives and property, according to the commissioner of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Reintegration, Barr. Bello Hamman Diram, and his counterparts from the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Neido Geoffrey, as well as that of Women Affairs and Social Development, Wunfe Anthony.
