2026 WCQ: Ebi justifies Super Eagles’ slow start to campaign
Onone Ebi, the captain of the Super Falcons, has defended the Super Eagles after their unsteady start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
In their first two games, the Eagles lost to Zimbabwe and Lesotho, two underdogs.
In their debut match, Jose Peseiro’s team struggled to a 1-1 draw with Lesotho’s Likuena.
In their next match, the West Africans and Zimbabwe ended in a 1-1 tie.

The players received harsh criticism for their lacklustre performance.
Ebi, nevertheless, has sprung to the Super Eagles’ defence.
“We have the best players in the world, which is extremely unfortunate, but winning games these days requires a lot of convincing. On her Instagram feed, she expressed her sadness.
“We require your unwavering support and an end to your constant berating, demeaning, and demoralising of players following a disappointing performance.
“After everything, players go through a lot. Please, football fans, let’s do more to support one another.”
