2023: Tinubu slams Obasanjo, saying, “You’re a paperweight, and your support for Peter Obi is meaningless.”
Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticised the support of Peter Obi from the Labour Party, LP, by former president Olusegun Obasanjo, calling it useless.
Tinubu said that Obasanjo didn’t have the political power or goodwill in Nigeria to make sure Obi won the election.
Tinubu said that the outgoing president was just a political paperweight. He said this through Bayo Onanuga, his director of media and publicity.
However, Tinubu stressed that the former president is free to support any presidential contender of his choosing.

Tinubu promised not to worry about Obi’s support from the former president and pointed out that Obi was not a democrat that anyone should work with.
The following is a portion of a statement from Onanuga: “We make the bold claim that our party and candidate, Tinubu, will not lose sleep over Obasanjo’s move, as Obasanjo is infamous for consistently opposing progressive political forces, as he did against MKO Abiola in 1993.
The former President lacks the political influence or goodwill necessary to influence anyone in Nigeria to win a council election, let alone a presidential one; thus, his endorsement is useless. He is a political symbol.
Additionally, no one should be pleased to be affiliated with him as a Democrat.
In a letter sent over the weekend about problems in the country, the former president gave Obi his support.
