2023: Jonathan speaks out on working against Atiku with resentful PDP Governors
The five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) implicated in the party’s turmoil, according to former president Goodluck Jonathan, are not working for his cause.
This was announced by Jonathan on Friday in a statement that was signed by Ikechukwu Eze, his special adviser.
The five governors are Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), and Nyesom Wike (Rivers State) (Enugu State).
Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP national chairman, is being pressured by them all to step down, despite his insistence that he will serve out his whole term.
According to recent reports, Jonathan’s case was being fought by the five governors.
“Those who suggest that Dr. Jonathan is unhappy with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, because of any roles he played prior to the 2015 elections forget that the former President actively campaigned for Atiku in 2019, attending the flag-off of his campaigns in Sokoto and subsequently taking part in the campaigns in some states like Rivers and Bayelsa,” the statement read in part.
Jonathan expressed his hope that “the PDP is able to settle its internal problem, unify its members, and have a good showing in the next 2023 elections,” according to the statement.
