In an automobile collision on Wednesday on the Longbridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, at least eighteen persons came dangerously close to death.

The white, eighteen-seater Mazda bus with the licence plate FKJ285Y was reportedly carrying people from Maryland to Lagos State at the time of the accident.

One of the survivors, identified only as Bolu, claimed that the propeller suddenly loosened as the bus was moving, forcing the vehicle to somersaul. The bus driver declined to speak with our reporter. Although no one was killed, the victims did sustain damage to their hands and legs.

“If not for God and the driver, I would have been a dead person by now,” the mother of a six-month-old infant added. We are grateful to God and the driver for sparing us.

Another passenger, Abubakar, claimed that he was the happiest person on the bus and that the money he had on him could no longer get him to his destination in Kebbi State. Abubakar was heading to Kebbi State but intended to get off in Ibadan.

I’m the most depressed person on this bus, and the money I have won’t get me to Kebbi any longer, he declared. Before leaving the park, the driver took N2,600 from us, but he wasn’t prepared to reimburse us or seek for help to rescue his stranded passengers.

At the accident scene, security officers, including police and some Federal Road Safety Corps members connected to the axis, were observed managing vehicular traffic as of the time this story was filed.

More information to come.
