11 dead, 54 injured in Kebbi auto accident

According to authorities, a catastrophic car accident on the Maiyama/Koko Road in Kebbi State on Tuesday claimed the lives of eleven persons.

A DAF trailer with the registration number SKK837X and an unidentified driver were involved in the accident on Monday.

Nafiu Abubakar, a spokesman for Kebbi State police, reported that 65 men from Sokoto State were passengers in the unfortunate van.

In addition to the passengers, the trailer was carrying six motorcycles, sacks of beans, and bags of onions from the Goronyo Local Government Area in Sokoto to Niger State.

The statement said, “The driver lost control of the vehicle as the truck head suddenly severed from the body on reaching a point near Dada village, Koko/Besse LGA.”

As a result, just the truck’s head veered into the brush. As a result, the driver and 65 other male passengers from Sokoto State suffered varied degrees of critical injuries.

Following the receipt of the accident report, a group of Koko Division traffic police officers were sent to the scene, according to Abubakar, and they took the casualties to General Hospital Koko.

He said that although 11 individuals had been officially declared dead, the other victims were responding to treatment.

In response to the event, Chris Omonzokpea Aimionowane, the Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State Command, prayed for the peaceful souls of the departed to continue to rest in peace.

Along with wishing the injured parties a quick recovery, the police commissioner issued a caution to all motorists travelling on the roadways to refrain from overloading and overspeeding in order to stop similar incidents in the future.
