During a gay wedding ceremony in Delta State, according to the police, more than 100 individuals were detained.

It stated in a tweet on Tuesday that the suspects would soon be paraded.

Recall that in January 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan signed Nigeria’s anti-gay law, which imposes a 14-year prison sentence for individuals found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with someone of the same sex.

The law was used for the first time in December 2019 when the police detained 47 men in a hotel in Lagos the year before. The suspects were brought before a judge and charged of openly showing fondness for people of the same sex.

The judge set bail for the suspects after they all entered not guilty pleas. Due to the police’s ineffective pursuit of the case, it was ultimately dismissed.
