SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Sunday.
Hundeyin stated that the Ejigbo Police Division received the information on Friday at approximately 6:20 p.m.
The father of the deceased lodged a complaint with the police, stating that his son, Israel Ogunleye, was playing football with a group of boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline in the Ejigbo area, where the boy’s mother operates a shop.
The father claimed that an argument ensued between his son and the 10-year-old suspect, who allegedly proceeded to strangle Israel to death.
In response to the report, a team of detectives visited the scene, documented the area and the deceased’s body, which was then taken to General Hospital Isolo for confirmation of death by the attending physician.
The body was subsequently transferred to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
