Zulum Condemns Boko Haram Attack That Killed 40 Farmers

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum strongly condemns the latest Boko Haram attack in which 40 farmers were killed, calling for intensified efforts to end insurgency in the region.

Governor Babagana Zulum has denounced the terrorist attack on the Dumba community, located near Baga in Borno State’s Kukawa Local Government Area.

The governor denounced the attack that resulted in the deaths of at least 40 farmers and fishermen on Sunday. He urged Operation Hadin Kai’s personnel to pursue and eliminate the insurgent groups active in Dumba and other similar areas around Lake Chad.

The attack was reportedly executed by Boko Haram and ISWAP factions active in the region.

Zulum expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, assuring them that efforts would be made to locate those still missing and bring about family reunifications.

In a statement from the state’s Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, the governor expressed, “It is with profound sorrow and distress that I received the tragic news of the attack on Dumba where numerous farmers and fishermen were killed by terrorists.”

As a representative of the government, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the victims’ families. I want to assure the citizens of Borno that we will conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and take all necessary actions accordingly.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge the armed forces to pursue and decisively address those responsible for this terrible act of violence against our innocent citizens.

Observers noted that the farmers deviated from the security corridor set up by security agencies and entered an area that has not yet been secured. Such areas are often susceptible to nighttime attacks by marauding terrorists and may also be contaminated with landmines.

The governor urged citizens to stay within the safety zones marked by the government and security agencies.
