Meta Description:** President Zelenskyy has replaced Ukraine’s Air Force commander after a fatal F-16 crash, signaling a leadership shift in the military.

Four days after a Russian bombardment resulted in the death of an F-16 pilot, which Ukraine received from Western partners, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed the country’s air force commander.

On Friday, the presidential website released an announcement regarding the dismissal of Mykola Oleshchuk.

Zelenskyy stated, just moments after the order was released, that “it is imperative to safeguard individuals and our military personnel while taking care of all soldiers.” He emphasized that Ukraine must enhance its army’s command level.

According to the general staff of the army, Anatolii Kryvonozhko has been named as the interim commander for the air force.

The firing occurred on the day when Oleshchuk sharply rebuked a deputy head of Ukraine’s parliamentary defense committee, who alleged that a Patriot air-defense system brought down an F-16. It must be noted that Ukraine has acquired unspecified quantities of such systems from the US.

Mariana Bezuhla requested disciplinary action against the individuals deemed accountable for the mistake, based on information from unidentifiable sources that she cited.

Bezuhla was accused by Oleshchuk of defaming the air force and discrediting US arms manufacturers. He expressed his desire that she faces legal implications for her allegations.

The F-16 being hit by a Patriot missile was not directly denied by the air force.

According to the air force, Ukrainian investigators are now working alongside US experts in analyzing the crash.

According to a US defense official who spoke with Reuters, there is currently no evidence suggesting that the crash was caused by Russian fire. The incident is under investigation and potential causes such as pilot error or mechanical failure are being looked into.

One potential tool for striking Russian bases positioned beyond the front line are F-16s.

According to Oleshchuk’s statement on Telegram, an extensive investigation is already underway regarding the F-16 jet crash that occurred during Russia’s significant missile and drone attack against Ukraine on Monday.

“We need to comprehensively comprehend the events, the context in which they occurred, and ascertain who bears accountability,” expressed Oleshchuk in his post just before being fired.

The F-16 crash in Ukraine, which occurred at the end of last month, marked the initial recorded loss of this type of aircraft. Reports suggest that as many as six have been transported by European nations to Ukraine.

Despite Russia’s overwhelming air force and advanced air defence systems, military analysts claim that the planes will not significantly impact the war. Nevertheless, Ukrainian officials view these supersonic jets as a valuable asset due to their ability to wield modern NATO weaponry against Russia’s superior aerial power.
