According to the Kaduna State Fire Service, a fire event that happened early on Friday has claimed the lives of Mohammadu Sani, his wife Raulatu Sani, their son Hashim Sani (age 8), and a baby named Fatima Sani.
In an interview with reporters on Friday in Zaria, Mohammad Umar, who is in charge of the Zaria Zone in the military, said this.
According to Umar, the epidemic started at around one in the morning on Hajiya Maituwo Street in Zaria’s low-income area.
He went on to say that the fire had already damaged a big part of the house before the fire department was called.
Umar did say, though, that the fire department’s quick work stopped the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
According to an eyewitness, Malam Safiyanu Aliyu, the late Sani was an imam at one of the mosques on Buhari Street in Low Cost, Zaria.
Aliyu said that the vigilance crew that was patrolling the area sent out a distress call about a fire. Aliyu did not know what caused the fire to start.
He continued by saying that when they arrived for aid, it was found that the apartment where the unfortunate family was staying had been completely destroyed by the fire.
He said that the bodies of the dead family were taken to their home in Dogarawa, Sabon Gari Local Government, so that they could be buried according to Islamic customs.
