Dr. Ahmad Hashim, a candidate for governor of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Alhaji Abubakar Gandi, a candidate for deputy governor of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), have both defected to the APC (APC).
This information may be found in a statement made in Gusau on Tuesday by Yusuf Idris, the state’s APC publicity secretary.
“The opposition political parties, including the ADC, YPP, AAC, and NNPP, have suffered a significant setback in Zamfara as a result of the defection of their leading contenders in the 2018 general elections to the ruling APC,” Idris stated.
“Dr. Ahmad Hashim, the ADC governorship candidate, led 11 state House of Assembly candidates, five House of Representatives candidates, three senatorial candidates, and five House of State candidates to the Gusau Government House where they declared their defection to the APC.
The YPP deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Gandi, the senatorial candidate for Zamfara West, and the Talata Mafara Local Government Chairman and Secretary also made their defection to the APC announcements during the occasion.

Idris claims that the party’s candidates for both the national and state house of assemblies, the state deputy chairman and secretary of the party, Jamilu Dinawa Isah Saminu, respectively, as well as the organising secretary of the party, have also merged with the APC, which is currently in power.
The African Action Congress (AAC) senatorial candidate for Zamfara West, Hon. Bello Danda, as well as the party’s chairman and secretary of Talata Mafara Local Government, Zulkifilu Ma’azu and Huzaifa Zubairu, were all received by the progressive party.
“Yunusa Yalbai, a House candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency, also declared his defection to the APC winning train.
Sen. Tijjani Yahaya-Kaura, the head of the state’s APC defectors reception committee, responded by praising them for their decision to join the party and stating it was the right one.
Yahaya-Kaura, who is also the state’s director of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, provided the assurance that all defectors would be treated equally with other party members.
He asked them to keep organising support so that the APC would win the upcoming general elections in the state and throughout Nigeria.
