Students and staff of Zamfara University who were kidnapped have regained their freedom. Discover the details of their release and the circumstances surrounding it.
Following seven months in captivity, Federal University Gusau faculty and students who were kidnapped by bandits in February have been released.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist and security analyst, verified the development on Monday via X (formerly Twitter).
The victims were abducted early this year during an attack in Zamfara State’s Gusau area.

The circumstances of their release, including if a ransom was paid, are still unknown, though.
Makama stated that the protection of their independence was greatly aided by security troops.
“Reports indicate that in February of this year, during a bandit attack in the Gusau area, students and staff were abducted,” Makama stated.
He went on to say that everyone who was kidnapped had returned safely and in good health.
