On Wednesday, the Zamfara Police Command reported neutralising one alleged bandit and detaining five others for kidnapping, livestock rustling, and possession of weapons and ammunition.
SP Mohammed Shehu, a police public relations officer with the Zamfara State Command, released a statement on Facebook.
Police say that Gusau was able to stop a bandit attack, and the suspects were found with two AK-47 rifles, 104 rounds of live ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, and a number of charms.
He said that Umaru Buba and Babuga Manu both admitted to kidnapping and stealing cattle in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and other states in the North after they were arrested.
Other suspects, Abu Umaru and Isah Ayub, who resided in the ancient Doka Village in the Gusau LGA, were also detained, according to him. They also had a working motorcycle and a sharp knife on them.
“During the investigation, the suspect admitted to being a member of a bandit gang in Mada, Wonaka, Yandoto, and Tsafe that was under the leadership of Malam Tukur.
The statement continued, “He further admitted that, on multiple occasions, they stopped the Gusau-Tsafe-Yankara Road and kidnapped an indeterminate number of persons, taking them to their enclave where their families paid ransom before their release.”
