Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has outlawed illegal mining and commanded law enforcement to take strict action against offenders.
The Governor declared that it was time to put an end to destructive activities by putting policies in place to safeguard the lives of the people in the State in a statement provided by his media assistant, Suleiman Bala Idris.
He emphasised that security personnel had been given strong orders to act courageously and shoot anyone discovered involved in illicit mining on sight.
The decree is required to protect the good citizens of Zamfara and to dissuade potential criminals from committing such crimes.
“It is also a prompt step to give the State Government complete control over state assets and stop acts that put people’s lives and property at risk.
Undoubtedly, one of the main causes of the widespread banditry afflicting Zamfara State is illegal mining. To stop this threat and bring peace and security back to our neighbourhoods, we must act quickly and decisively, he said.
