Bandits kidnapped at least 50 people, the bulk of whom were women and children, during an attack on Bagega, a mining community in the state of Zamfara, and three other people were killed.
A neighbour who asked to remain anonymous said that on Tuesday morning, attackers on motorcycles stormed the village, opening fire randomly and torching homes.

The village head, Malam Abubakar Uba, confirmed the attack and told Reuters that the gunmen first abducted the district head in the hamlet before abducting a dozen other people.
“They rode a dozen motorcycles into the village and made the District Head’s house their first stop. Before they entered the town and caused additional damage, several of them took him and three other members of his family away, according to Uba.
