Zamfara checkpoint shooting: Soldier accused of killing DPO

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wasagu Division in Kebbi State, Halliru Liman, has been tragically killed at a checkpoint in Zamfara State by a soldier’s bullet.
Liman was halted by military officers at the Danmarke location in Bukkuyum Local Government Area while en route to Birnin Kebbi for a meeting, according to Yazid Abubakar, representative of the Zamfara State Police Command.
A military initiative in the region, named Operation Dadarin Daji, involved these soldiers.
Although Liman had identified himself as a police officer, Hassan, one of the soldiers, immediately shot him.
On August 28th, 2024 at roughly ten-thirty in the morning, a deadly event took place. The authorities were appalled and angered by this gruesome act of violence and categorized it as an abhorrent offense; they vowed for a meticulous inquiry to bring those accountable to justice.

On Thursday, the spokesperson for the command issued a statement expressing condemnation towards the unprovoked attack. The military personnel were held accountable as their actions breached rules of engagement and jeopardized inter-agency cooperation principles.
It was demanded in the statement that the concerned authorities take prompt action to tackle this outrageous occurrence and guarantee justice for Liman.
The police emphasized that to sustain peace and security, it is crucial for security agencies to cooperate. They urged everyone not to engage in violent confrontations under any circumstances.
The statement conveyed sympathies to Liman’s relatives and associates, guaranteeing them that the authorities will diligently seek out justice.
