Barbara Banda, the captain of the Copper Queens, has recently received a promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant from the Zambian Army in recognition of her significant contribution to Zambia’s qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Banda showcased her talent by scoring two crucial goals as the Copper Queens managed to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg and secure a 2-0 victory against Morocco on Tuesday evening.
The forward displayed her skills by opening the scoring for Zambia in the 39th minute of the match, setting the tone for her team’s impressive comeback.
In a thrilling encounter that required extra-time to determine the winner, Banda once again stepped up and converted a penalty in the 105th minute to seal the victory for her team.

Ngambo Musole, the goalkeeper who made several remarkable saves during the game, was also recognized for her outstanding performance and received a promotion alongside Banda.
Additionally, two other players, Racheal Nachula and Anita Mulenga, were also honored with promotions to the rank of Staff Sergeant for their contributions to the team’s success.
With this promotion and their remarkable qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games, the Copper Queens are set to make their second consecutive appearance at the prestigious event in Paris.
