Yusuf Vows to Recover N5.4bn Pension Funds from Ganduje’s Govt

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has emphasized his determination to utilize all legal avenues to recover the more than N5.4 billion in monthly pension contributions that were not remitted by the previous administration led by Abdullahi Ganduje.

He stated that it is unjustifiable for anyone to deduct pension contributions from workers without transferring the funds accordingly. During the commencement of the disbursement of N5 billion in gratuities to 4000 retirees, Yusuf reiterated that pension payments are not a privilege but a fundamental entitlement.

He urged the pensioners to submit a formal complaint to the State government to initiate an inquiry into the mishandling of their pension contributions. The governor assured the pensioners that his administration is committed to retrieving their funds.

Yusuf also highlighted that his government inherited pension arrears amounting to N43 billion from the previous administration. Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdussalam, the state Accountant General, affirmed that Governor Yusuf is dedicated to settling a decade’s worth of pension backlog. Comrade Salisu Gwale, the Chairman of Nigeria Pensioners Union in Kano State, lamented the mistreatment of pensioners by the Ganduje administration and expressed concerns about the unresolved pension issues prior to the 2023 election.
