Prof. Wole Soyinka, a well-known Nobel laureate, has criticized Peter Obi’s Labour Party supporters, the Obidient Movement, for their involvement in the just held general election for 2023.

Reports on Nigerian politics During his speech at the book launch for “The Putin Files: Excursions Around The Ideology Of Pain” on Friday, Wole Soyinka argued that the Obidients were fascist.

In response to an inquiry on why he termed Obidients fascists from a lawyer and poet named Ogaga Ifowodo, he referenced the 2020 EndSARS rally as an illustration of a battle motivated by unadulterated truth.

He claims that one of the most effective movements in this nation is the EndSARS campaign.

When departing Lagos for Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, Soyinka indicated that he supported the EndSARS demonstration and had even spoken to some of the demonstrators.

Soyinka made a comparison between the EndSARS demonstration and the Obidient Movement, pointing out that the Obidients were attempting to “mobilize youth to defend an untruth.”

Soyinka compared most of the Obidient Movement’s acts to those of the late Muhammadu Buhari, who “pushed people to kill innocent serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by claiming he was cheated out of an election.”

He claimed that some plotted to steer the nation toward having an interim government long before the election.

Soyinka stated that some people who felt they were being radical were actually being “mumu” (foolish) and “playing the script of others.”

Remember how Soyinka slammed Obidients in May after labeling them fascists?
