The rising tennis star, dubbed the ‘Young Federer,’ has won the Australian Open Boys’ Title, showcasing impressive skills and drawing comparisons to the tennis legend.

Henry Bernet accomplished what Roger Federer could not by securing the Australian Open boys’ title on Saturday. The young Swiss player used comparisons to his renowned compatriot as a source of motivation.

On his 18th birthday, Bernet defeated American Benjamin Willwerth with scores of 6-3, 6-4 to join the ranks of players like Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios, and Gael Monfils in winning the Melbourne trophy.

Although Federer claimed six Australian Open titles as part of his 20 Grand Slam victories, he never secured the junior championship.

Bernet and Federer, both natives of Basel, started their tennis journeys at the same club: TC Old Boys Basel.

Additionally, Bernet shares similarities with Federer by utilizing the same classic one-handed backhand that proved successful for the Swiss legend. Currently, he is under the guidance of Severin Luthi, who was a longtime coach and supporter of Federer.

When asked about how he plans to deal with inevitable comparisons as he joins the main ATP Tour, Bernet responded: “I’m focused on developing myself and creating my own path.”

“Naturally, comparisons will always be made. That’s not an issue for me; it’s a source of motivation.”

He has met Federer just once, during last year’s US Open.

He expressed his desire to speak with him again when questioned about expecting a phone call from the 43-year-old following his achievement in Australia.
