Prof. Wole Soyinka, a literary legend, has emphatically said that Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, did not win the 2023 presidential election as he claims.
Obi only finished third in the election, not even second, according to Soyinka.
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, upheld President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory on Wednesday, according to Obasanjonews24, but his opponents have pledged to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who finished second in the election, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who finished third, both attempted to overturn Tinubu’s victory.
Even though Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, claims to have won the election, Soyinka asserted that Obi did not even come in second.
“First of all, two events occurred in the most recent election. In a widely shared interview on X, he said that one party had taken control of the Labour movement, which is also one of his favourites.
It was a fantastic bridge between the two established factions, but it later turned into a provincial party. There, Peter Obi broke the mould and did something spectacular. Yes.
Nevertheless, he lost that election. In a monitoring organisation, I worked. I can certainly state that Peter Obi’s party finished third, not even second, and that the leadership was aware of this.
“But they want to do what we call in Yoruba ‘gbajue’, which is force of lies…’
“They’re going to send some of the extremists, crowds, and youngsters out on the streets to protest.”
I’m always willing to participate in such demonstrations, but only if the truth is the cause.
