The Lagos State police command has responded to the allegations made by popular Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, regarding harassment by its officers.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, it was clarified that Bakare was stopped for violating traffic laws by driving on the BRT lane.
The spokesperson further explained that Bakare chose to create a scene and refused to stay in her vehicle when it was being taken to the LAMATA office.
The officers involved did not yield to her attempts to hold them down at the spot. Hundeyin emphasized that Bakare paid the N70,000 fine for her offense and was not physically harmed in any way. She left with the receipt and her vehicle. These clarifications were made in response to Bakare’s claims that the police dragged her out of her car and drove away with her teenage daughter inside.
