Prior to the anticipated local government election in the state scheduled for November 25, the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) has announced the delay of party primaries.

A letter bearing reference number YB/SIEC/GEN/VOL, dated September 14, 2023, and signed by the commission’s executive chairman, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, announced the postponement of the primaries.

The letter, titled “Reschedule of Party Primaries,” is addressed to every political party in the state and begins, “I wish to officially notify you that party primaries officially scheduled for September 15, 2023, are now postponed indefinitely, please.”

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Yobe State has requested that the state electoral umpire change the date of the scheduled local government poll, according to an earlier report by OBASANJO NEWS24.

Bala Mohammed, the state chairman of the council, made the decision while briefing reporters in Damaturu, the state capital.

“As you know, the rainy season arrived somewhat late. Since the rain has gotten worse, our staff have been working in the fields a lot. The state is at its height of agricultural production right now, making political involvement inappropriate, according to Mohammed.
