Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has asked the newly formed Committee on Palliatives to mobilise resources for prompt distribution in order to mitigate the impact of the termination of fuel subsidies.
Buni issued the decision on Monday, according to a statement released by his spokesman, Mohammed, and made available to journalists.
“The Committee has begun work and is developing plans and strategies to cover every sector of society, particularly those in need.”
“It will be comprehensive and total, with priority given to those who truly deserve the help,” he stated.
The Governor also directed the group to develop a comprehensive strategy for identifying areas that require immediate, intermediate, and long-term actions.
He also stated that the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has already begun the distribution of food materials to People Living with Disabilities, while assuring that the government will continue to provide support in other critical sectors such as transportation, as well as providing accessible and affordable healthcare delivery and education, among others.
“The intervention would cover every sector in the private sector, including civil servants, farmers, and students,” he stated.
Buni urged the people to support the government’s efforts to provide assistance to alleviate suffering.
He did, however, warn that the government would not tolerate any act of sabotage that would obstruct this commendable effort to deny the people vital assistance.
