Yemisi Ogunleye has won the Olympic gold medal for Germany in the women’s shot put event, marking a significant achievement and highlighting her exceptional performance on the global stage.
With her last attempt, Yemisi Ogunleye of Germany clinched the gold medal in women’s shot put at Friday’s Paris Olympics by throwing 20.00m to secure victory.
Ogunleye surpassed Maddison-Lee Wesche of New Zealand, who achieved her personal best with a throw of 19.86 in her fifth attempt, and Song Jiayuan won the bronze medal with a score of 19.32.
Before this, Ogunleye’s highest achievement was a silver medal in the 2024 world indoor championships. Additionally, she earned herself a bronze medal in June at the European Championships held in Rome.
Jaida Ross earned fourth place for the USA, but her teammate Raven Saunders was eliminated after completing only three throws. This brought about disappointment for the American team.
Gong Lijiao, the Chinese athlete who has previously won a silver medal in London and bronze in Beijing 2008 Olympics, clinched the gold medal at Tokyo. However, she finished fifth during her recent competition.
