During a stakeholders meeting in Damaturu, Dr. Mamman Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of YBSIEC, disclosed this information.
He said that the date of the elections for the 17 Chairmen and 178 Councillors of Yobe State’s local government council had been authorised by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
He continued, “That is in accordance with the provision of section 197 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.”
According to Mohammed, the state’s registered political parties will receive election rules so they can appoint qualified candidates to strengthen good governance at the local level.
To guarantee victory at the polls, he gave his employees and electoral officers double the work.
He gave his word that the local government council election will be free, fair, credible, and peaceful, and that the State Independent Electoral Commission would oversee its conduct.
He emphasised that all Yobeans, regardless of gender, are qualified to run for council seats and chairmanships once they turn 25 or 30. They also need to be in good mental health, not be insolvent, and pass a security clearance process.
